Mr. Douglas Tong lived in Japan and studied the following styles there:
Katori Shinto Ryu under Master Yoshio Sugino in Kawasaki-shi
Ono-ha Itto Ryu under Master Takemi Sasamori in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo
Yagyu Shinkage Ryu under Master Masao Mutou in Zushi-shi
Muso Shinden Eishin Ryu (iaido) and ZNKR kendo under Master Toshihiko Izawa in Fujisawa-shi
Mr. Tong holds 4 degrees: M.Ed. (Curriculum Studies), B.Ed. (Pre-Service), B.Ed. (TESL), and B.A.. He has lectured at Brock University, presented papers at conferences, and has taught ESL in Canada and EFL in Japan.
Mr. Tong’s research interests focus on epistemological issues in education (training vs. education, competence vs. capacity), educational aims and teaching philosophy, and the effectiveness of problem-solving & decision-making models (ie. case studies, simulations) as educational tools. Mr. Tong has been teaching since 1990. Currently he is a school teacher with the Peel District School Board.
